MIDDLE OF NOWHERE CAMPING FOOD IDEAS
Camping food ideas may not come to you as easily as you would like. When you’re desperate to eat something, and there is no place close enough for delivery, there is only one way to handle the situation: you have to cook something yourself. So in order for you to be prepared for an event like that, here are the most important qualities of camping food and some ideas on dishes you can easily cook while out of the city. MOST WANTED QUALITIES OF CAMPING FOOD Most wanted qualities of camping food are easy to name. Taking into consideration all that I’ve read on the topic and experienced by myself, as well as what common sense is suggesting, there are 4 of them. First of all, camping food must be easy to prepare. I suppose, this is the key feature of every camping meal. You don’t have access to a fully equipped kitchen with an induction stove, an oven and the pans and pots of all the shapes and sizes you can think of. All you have is this one medium-sized pan, one pot, one sharp knife and a couple of spoons. And to heat your meal you have to…
How to Travel Europe by Train and Have Fun
It's good to know how to travel Europe by train. In my opinion, this way of travelling is one of the most fun and rewarding. And trains themselves have something cool in them, don’t you think? If you’re planning on visiting Europe and you’re considering traveling by trains, read this article! You will learn about the diversity of european railways and get some info on High Speed Railways. You will also find out why night trains are comfortable and how much does traveling by train in Europe cost. Here are the tips and warnings about European Railway Networks. QUALITY OF EUROPEAN RAILWAYS Quality of European railways is extremely diversified. For example, the German railways have an outstanding reputation. They are believed to have one of the best railway rolling stock in the world and the most on-time schedule. At the other end of the spectrum are the foreign communistic countries. It seems like the communists hated railway transportation as passionately as they believed in equality. Over the years the quality of railway wagons has degraded severely and train speed in some places is even lower than in the 50’s. Not to mention the terrible punctuality. The exception from that rule…

How To Tip The Extraction Team
You will probably find many tips and advice by so-called travel advisory groups. We've all came across universal rules on tips written by travel experts. What I want to share is none of the above – it is my view on tipping and the way I perceive the mechanics of it. Trust me when I say this – I do not mean to offend any doorman or hotel staff – I praise them on their ingenuity. Here are a few tips for tipping my way. Tipping for your luggage might seem like common sense and courtesy. But beware! The front of the house personnel have a well thought out system of extraction, lurking and waiting for its next prey. This is especially true of large and luxury hotels. This group is called the EXTRACTION team. Photo Credit: boxchain via Compfight cc You think I’m exaggerating? Consider this: When you arrive, you will be very quickly evaluated by the doorman. He will look at what car you arrived in, how you’re dressed and what luggage you carry (believe me, they don’t miss a trick). He will then most likely announce to you „I will take care of your luggage Sir/Madame”. Which…
What Turns An Average Traveler into a Remarkably Likeable Modern Day Nomad
Traveling takes a lot of social skills. Being a dedicated fan of social psychology and aspiring traveler I’ve decided to research what turns an average traveler into a remarkably likeable modern day nomad. The truth is that no matter what travel modus operandi you dig, at some point you’ll have to communicate, you’ll have to sympathise, you’ll have to understand and you’ll have to learn quickly. I discovered there are at least 6 habits every likeable traveler should have. They are the habits that help them make an entire room full of people smile. No matter if those people understand a single word he says. Photo Credit: guccio@文房具社 via Compfight cc When you meet them, after, “What do you do?” they’re never out of things to say. They never suck at small talk, and they’re far from shy and a never insecure. When you meet them you can even secretly envy them, but trust me there’s a lot we can all learn from them. I assume that when we travel, we generally want to make a good impression. We want people to genuinely like us. Sometimes it is just a question of comfort and nice atmosphere and sometimes it is…
How to travel and understand history through a historic place
Practice beats theory in many ways. When it comes to learning about history, it's best to travel and understand history through a historic place. Show of hands, who here learns best by practice? That’s what I thought - there’s more people like me! I hate theory and I always learn best when I’m active. So if it is possible to learn math by solving equations, it is also possible to learn history by traveling (in time). Here are some tips on how to understand history. Photo Credit: archer10 (Dennis) via Compfight cc I don’t mean actually constructing a time machine and take myself back to Mediaeval France - come on! I wouldn’t survive one day there (without my smartphone. And my shower!). Luckily we don’t need a device from a science fiction novel to explore the life our ancestors lived. Photo Credit: seier+seier via Compfight cc To me the best way is to visit places where history was created. It can be the Mediterranian, where you can see the ruins of the quite developed Roman aqueducts, the not-very-rational-to-construct-but-still-pretty ancient Greek oracles, the Egyptian pyramids. It can be some small Chinese village, where not a lot has changed since the Ming…
Always Look Good While Traveling the World
Is it possible to always look good while traveling the world? Do you really have to look like a hobo to look like an adventurous traveler. Most of us beside exploring the world, meeting the unknown, want to come back home with nice pictures. Pictures of themselves in nice places. And some want to always look on those pictures. It sounds a bit vain but that’s what all of us have inside. A little piece of vanity. We prefer to always look good while traveling the world because that automatically makes us a better companion, makes it easier to meet new people or simply to settle things on the road. Sounds ridiculous? Well just look how it works, people like pretty things and people like pretty people. Simple as that. You are well-groomed, you’re over the hump ;-) Easier said than done? It’s easier than Level 1 of Angry Birds. Take it from me, after all, I'm <marttatheworstgameplayerinhistory> You simply have to follow those simple rules and you'll not only be amazed by the wonders of this planet but you'll stay the wonder yourself. 5 Basic Factors for Happiness and How Traveling Supports Each
According to Carl Gustav Jung – one of the founders of psychotherapy – there are five basic factors for happiness. Those basic elements in theory are easy to achieve and maintain to experience happiness. They all however seem to escape our attention when it comes to actually acting upon them. Those five basic factors for happiness include mental and physical health, good personal and intimate relationships, the ability to perceive beauty in all its forms, the reasonable standards of living and a philosophic or religious approach or attitude to cope with the ups and downs we are all bound to experience in our lives. I have decided to examine how can traveling influence all five factors for happiness and how it actually forms one interdisciplinary element – a sort of bridge that makes happiness possible. Even though the very notion of happiness has been around since the beginning of the history of the humankind, the more scientific approach aiming to explain this phenomenon has a relatively short history. Carl Gustav Jung actually formulated his thesis in 1960 when interviewed by journalist Gordon Young, who asked, “What do you consider to be more or less basic factors making for happiness in…
How to Be More Spontaneous,Travel and Be Happier
Humans are creatures of habit. Nothing wrong with that, but I strongly believe it helps to be more spontaneous, every now and then. I couldn't care less about people judging me as boring or rigid, but I care a lot about my well-being, mental health, relations and staying young for as long as it's possible (not following Cher's footsteps, however). All those things come apparently with being more spontaneous and allowing yourself a bit of a mental awakening. Becoming spontaneous is a process – often combined with almost a therapeutic approach aimed at breaking down the walls of own habit, convictions and fears. Yes indeed, humans are a creatures of habit – this has helped us for centuries to form a predictable, I daresay boring lifestyles. I have learned however that the unpredictable comes our way either way so it's good to shake up the system every now and then and stay alert – gorgeously spontaneous. 1. Reality Check – Can I be more spontaneous? We are very poor judges when it comes to deciding whether we are in fact spontaneous or not. Actually the most common attribution mistake is that we all tend to think we are above average.…
Traveling Boosts Mental Health
Traveling boosts mental health in many ways and allows you to not only stretch out your comfort zones, but be more creative and expand your skills and capacities. It's a widely known fact that travel helps you relax and is good for your immune system. Now, psychologists discovered it boosts mental health and found many more blessings that come with every trip you take. There's no doubt traveling can shape your character, help you discover and rediscover truths about yourself. Find out how the very act of exploring the world not only feels right, but actually helps boost your mental health. Gain perspective. Literally. Visiting another location is an eye-opener. You dive into interesting history and culture, you communicate and learn to be more open-minded. What is interesting is that geographic distance leads to improved problem solving. Experimental studies have shown that when people are told the creative generation problem solving task was developed in an overseas country, they come up with a higher number of possible solutions to the problem. Johan Lehrer (American author, journalist, blogger and speaker who writes on the topics of psychology, neuroscience) explains that because the source of the problem is far away, we feel…

Why Argentina Can Still Consider Itself Lucky
Argentina has been in a bit of despair for the past couple of days. They have lost to Germany. Emotions were great and so was the despair. In a true lation way the nation mourned the defeat. As much as I totally understand them, there's one thing I still need to say. Argentinians! Consider yourself lucky anyway. You may not have won this game but you have won so much more – your amazing country. Not that Germany is hidious or anything. But if I had to choose honestly, I would definitely rather spend my next journey in the land of gauchos than in the land of currywurst. After all the pain and sorrow of the battle lost will wash away, you will have some amazing things to look at, to enjoy and to taste. So I give you five reasons to be happy to be living and being an Argentinian. You've got Patagonia This amazing region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile comprises the southern section of the Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes and grasslands east of this southern portion of the Andes. It is picturesque and famous for…

10 Top Travel Destinations Rediscovered
The map is not a territory – that is a phrase I use often to explain that the way we perceive and interpret things differ greately even when we view the very same object or phenomena. I think it is exactly the same when we talk of travel destinations. A map is only an interpretation of the territory, the land. The very same place seen by the eyes of two travelers can result in two very different stories. Stories that are later saved and shared. I took time to look at the very popular and less obvious travel destinations Travel World Passport members saved in our framework. And I found out that their perspective is very unique, sometimes surprising and always inspiring. That is why I chose 10 Top Travel Destinations and came up with a deck to inspire you and make you realise that no two travel stories are the same. And that is the beauty of it all. Travel World Passport is a framework to save and share travel memories. The users proved that even top travel destinations can be rediscovered in a very unique way once you have the opportunity to look at them throught the eyes of the…
The Top 6 Ghost Towns in Europe
I’d like to present to you TOP 6 Ghost Towns in Europe. This entry was partially inspired by the recent bankruptcy of one of the biggest US cities - Detroit. Much like Detroit, European Ghost Towns were once full of life. And then something happened that lead to people fleeing from out there. Like an economical crisis, or a natural disaster, or war... So now those places are abandoned and everything people build over the years is just standing there and decaying. The best, most famous example of a Ghost Town in Europe is Pompeii, where the volcano eruption killed the whole village and basically stopped time there or centuries. And here are a couple of other deserted places you have to see. AGDAM, AZERBAIJAN Agdam was a city with population of 40.000 people that was destroyed and abandoned during Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1993. After that, it was also looted for building materials and devastated even more. Nowadays, there are only a couple of buildings, that are in more or less stable state. One of them is Aghdam Mosque. In 2010 a complaint was filed to the roman pope, Benedict XVI. After that local authorities cleaned up the surroundings and…
MOST ICONIC GAY TRAVEL DESTINATIONS
As the title says, this text is all about iconic gay travel destinations. I have gathered together places that are the most gay-friendly and have a lot to offer to gay and lesbian tourists. Cities with the best gay nightclubs, bars, restaurants and bathhouses. Locations where it is safe to openly display your affections on the streets and the beaches. I’m also mentioning one city that at the moment due to political issues isn’t as safe as it used to be, but still can attract LGBT tourists. If you’re planning your vacation, this text will help you decide where to go on your next “Big Hot Gay Travel”. 1. COPENHAGEN Denmark is the first country in history to legalize same sex partnerships in 1989. Since 2012 it also approves of same sex marriages. That’s how open the Danish people are. Copenhagen has one of the best developed queer tourist information in the world. There is a special website, a guide and an app. Really close to the city hall there is the Centralhjørnet - one of the oldest gay cafés in the city. But there are also a lot of clubs and pubs to choose from, so that you can…
5 WEIRDEST HOTELS IN THE WORLD – FREAKISHLY DESIGNED HOTELS FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT
When it comes to the weirdest hotels in the world, you can have your pick. In this list you won’t find Ice Hotels, because they have been talked about so often, they don’t surprise anyone anymore. But did you know there is a place where you can spend your night like a prisoner? Or dine with animals you can normally only see in an African savannah? Or sleep in an Indian teepee? Check out some of these freakishly designed hotels. GIRAFFE MANOR, NAIROBI, KENYA http://www.giraffemanor.com/ Ever wanted to share your breakfast or dinner with a giraffe? In the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi it is possible. Built in 1930, this place was bought in 1974 by Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville. Since then they made it their goal to preserve an endangered species of Rothschild giraffe (Thanks to their efforts it’s population is constantly growing and now there are about 700 of them worldwide. It’s still in risk of extinction, but a series of actions have been taken to prevent it). The hotel has 10 en-suite rooms (with one room suitable for wheelchair users) and welcomes families with children. One of the biggest attractions is actually dining with the giraffes, who are…

Why is Traveling Natural for Humans
Is traveling natural for mankind? Scientist all over the world have been asking themselves that exact question for a long time now. Because there must be a bigger, more universal reason why men and women of all ages are willing to put themselves through a long and often uncomfortable journey. A journey, during which they spend quite some time in a place they don't know, surrounded by strangers, who probably are tough to communicate with. A journey during which they will probably spend twice as much money, as they would back at home. So why on Earth would they (we) do that? MEET THE FIRST TRAVELER IN HISTORY To understand our irresistible urges to travel, I suggest we use our imagination. Let me tell you a short story. It’s pretty unusual, but just go with me on this one, ok? Central part of todays Africa, 160 - 180 thousand years ago. The age without tablets and smartphones, an era where there are no trains or hotels, dark times deprived of such useful inventions as boiled water and hygiene. All the people in the world live together in one big settlement. Among them, there is this special guy; let's call him…
What Do You Learn About Yourself When You Travel
We all learn when we travel, but what do you learn about yourself when you travel. A lot! There is a saying, that if you want to test if someone is your best friend or just an acquaintance, go on a trip with them. Because traveling is the best way to check out person’s qualities. But what this saying neglects to stress is that it’s actually a good way to test yourself as well. I found a couple of things one can learn about him- or herself while traveling. 1) SIR SCHEDULED OR MR. FLEXIBLE? Photo Credit: Βethan via Compfight cc Even if you don’t write down all your plans, you still make them. And that’s great - generally it is better to know where to start from. The problem might come up, when you plan every single activity to the minute. To the second. And if then you do everything in your power to prevent from altering those plans. What some people tend to forget is that not everything can be planned, especially during traveling. That is why it is of key importance to be at least a little flexible - otherwise, you might get frustrated and that is…
5 Good Reasons to Stay More Open to Cultural Differences
We've got 5 good reasons to stay more open to cultural differences that make every country unique. After all it’s us who should adapt to another culture when we travel and not the other way round. We should open our minds to differences. See how you can actually benefit from staying more open to the things that initially leave you puzzled. Being open-minded is the only way we will learn something from other cultures. Isn’t it why we all started to travel in the first place? Everyone is different. But even though we know that, we conitnue pushing other people to be more like us. We expect them to behave the way we want them to. Instead we could just simply accept differences. Many say this is the key to peace and happiness, not only in ourselves, but when you think about it- the entire World. How profound was that?! This is also why I travel – to bring peace and happiness to my soul. Photo Credit: Gakige via Compfight cc I remember how strongly I dreamed about it before my first trip. What I remember even more is what a massive failure that trip was. I was not…
Vacations Are Good for Your Health
There's growing evidence that vacations are good for your health. Taking time off to travel is for most of us a form of reward for the hard work, stress and commitment to our daily routines. We all realise how vital it is to recharge our batteries and break out of the 9 to 5 hedonistic treadmill. But vacations are not simply a luxury – a way of rewarding ourselves for hours spend at work. There is increasing evidence that they really are good for your health. I've already tackled the subject of the impact traveling can have on your mental health and creativity levels, but there are studies that prove that traveling and taking time off is good for many other aspects of your health. Photo Credit: muha... via Compfight cc Elaine Eaker – president of Eaker Epidemiology, a private research company – with a team of other researches conducted a study that provides some interesting findings. The study, published in 1992, used information from the Framingham Heart Study, which started in 1948. Eaker and researchers looked at questionnaires women in the study had filled out over 20 years about how often they took vacations. The study showed clearly how…
How Traveling the World Changed Over the Years
Traveling the world changed over the years. What used to take years now takes days only. One thing remains – traveling the world is in our nature. We all have travelers DNA. We dream to travel the world, to see different continents, to visit exotic places... Who as a child didn't want to take a trip like Phileas Fogg form Jules Verne’s book? I did! As a matter of fact, I still do. Let me tell you some of the most important things about the history of around the world travels and a description of how to travel around the world in modern days. FROM FERDINAND MAGELLAN TO STEVE FOSSETT Photo Credit: Johan J.Ingles-Le Nobel via Compfight cc It took over 3 years and costed life of almost 250 people (including Ferdinand Magellan's) to circumnavigate the Earth for the first time in the history of mankind. The 18 men, who managed to return home from the expedition lead by Magellan were literally the first people to travel around the world (at least on the official record – who knows what those Vikings were capable of?). They went from Spain across Atlantic, along South America coast, through the strait, that was…
Women Traveling the World on Their Own
Women traveling the world on their own still raise a few eyebrows. When we think of adventurers and explorers we tend to think of men – bearded and grim – setting out in search of new lands or excitement. However, history is full of women who have bucked the trend of staying at home and explored the world their way. But it is not only the past that is full of brave solo female travellers. Nowadays, more and more women travel the world solo and discover their true self in the process. All these women are extraordinary characters. They may have different motivations behind their solo travels, but they all prove that when it comes to travelling solo they are as brave as any other man would be. They are a great inspiration for us all. Women traveling the world alone sense the liberty What picture comes to our mind when we think of women travelling solo? Some recall the historical, above mentioned figures of Amelia Earhart, Freya Stark and other heroines. I much prefer to think of female bloggers, who travel and share their vision of solo travels. Like their historical sisters, they all have different motivations behind their…

4 Ways to Protect Your Tech When Travelling
I love to travel and I love my tech. And frankly odds are I want to take my gadgets everywhere. If you are at least half the tech-lover I am chances are this post is for you. The facts are that while you may love the pool and the beach, your cellphone does not. All you have to do is protect your tech by showing it a little summer lovin' and keep it safe with these four basic tips. Tip one – The heat is on! Meaning always watch the temperature Extremely warm or cold temperatures can have noticeable effects on your phone's battery, display and synthetic housing components. There's even a possibility of the ominously named "heat-related death," which is exactly as horrible as it sounds. Like your skin, the best way to protect your tech is to keep it in the shade. If you do find that your phone has overheated in the sun, let it cool gradually. Do not put it in the refrigerator or freezer. Tip one and a half – It's freezing cold! Meaning not only heat is dangerous If you're not the Barbados kinda person and summer vacation for you involves a parka and…
5 Amazing Apps to Help you Communicate When You Travel
When you travel abroad you might find yourself trapped in a place where people do not actually speak your language. As trivial as it seems knowledge of foreign languages comes in handy when you are out there exploring the world. Let's face it though – we are not all that talented and juggling the range of languages from Mandarin to Hindu might not come to us all with the same ease. And since not the whole world apparently speaks English I have selected a few apps for your smartphone that will help you with your linguistic struggles. Apps also help us stay in touch with the people who luckly speak our language. Tech is not all that bad. iTranslate I've been having fun with this app. And I must say, I'm impressed. It's fast in translating, accurate and the voice technology is brilliant. And when I say brilliant I mean you can choose to sound like Barack Obama- now to perfect that kind of diction is wow. iTranslate is what sci-fi films have been promising us for a while- it's your personal electronic interpreter. You say something to the app in your native language and after a second it speaks…
One Food You Must Try When Traveling Around the Globe
One food you must try when traveling to… any given country in the world. I'm pretty sure everyone can name that one dish that tastes undeniably the best right where it comes from. Where the ingredients are local, where the food and recipe is rooted in history, local traditions and cherished by generations that keep it the way it was intended to be. We want to give you a list of each and every one food you must try when traveling to different parts of our globe. This one food you must try list in by no means complete, it is neither objective or extremaly professionally selected. This one food you must try list is an honest one – it is based on our experiences, on the blogs we follow and love and it is a genuine attempt to start a larger list. The list that would be completed by you, the people who travel the world, explore it and taste it. Where does the idea of One Food You Must Try come from? I love to travel – exploring the world, its different faces, the stories behind each stone out there simply fascinates me. But I also love to…
The Every Foodie Italian Food Travel Guide
There are places every foodie traveler has to visit. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that we start our new series with the Italian Food Travel Guide. The first part of the immensely popular triptych Eat, Pray and Love by Elisabeth Gilbert takes place in Rome. It is the part quite adequately called EAT. And I must say I am not that much surprised the author chose Italy to feed the tortured should of the main protagonist with… Italian food. I am also not surprised why so many foodie travellers consider Italy the ultimate foodie travel destination. Italian food is the perfect balm that soothes your soul, makes you happy and as a matter of fact, it is quite healthy. But Italian food is not just about nutrition. It is about celebrating it, making it a social event, devouring it. So what are the best places and foods to try for every food traveler in Italy? There are many – each region has it's specific allure, from peasant and rather simple (yet still delicious) goodies in Sicily to glorious feasts in Rome. From the most amazing pizzas in Napoli, to more refined tastes of the north. One thing all those delicious foods…
What Does Food Culture and Society Have in Common
Food culture and society have a lot in common. Food is a necessity. Evolutionary speaking the abundance or lack of it marked our chances for survival. That is why our limbic system reacts so well to any visual representation of food. Including the steak you see behind. But food is not just pure biological need. Food is culture. The way we eat, the way we engage in social activities while preparing and eating food, the habits, customs and even the superstitions that surround it make us who we are. Getting to know one man’s food is learning a lot about him. At Travel World Passport we love to explore the world from any angle possible. And food is one of the fun ways to discover the truth about any given country you decide to visit. At Travel World Passport we like to examine travels – we like to view traveling not only as mere act of moving and even discovering a certain specific location. We see it as the complex yet very enjoyable set of lessons we all can enjoy. We've research all things travel and all things traveling leads to. We've done posts on how traveling boosts your mental…
WHAT IS FOOD TOURISM AND CULINARY TRAVELING REALLY ABOUT?
Food tourism has been growing stronger and stronger for over a decade now. Travelers all over the world finally noticed, that when they are talking about the trip they’d just had, they always mentioned two things - weather and food. According to World Tourism Organization, in 2012 in Europe alone food and drinks were the main reason of 600.000 travels and a secondary reason to over 20 million trips each year! It's as if almost every citizen of Australia traveled to eat and drink! The scale is impressive! So here’s what you need to know about food tourism. WHAT IS FOOD TOURISM? The term itself seems pretty self-explanatory. Food tourism is a form of travelling, where food and drinks is in the center of interest. But as the founder and president of World Food Travel Association, Erik Wolf, says, you don't necessarily have to leave your continent or country to become a food traveler. It is enough, that you go to a restaurant across town to try a dish that your friend suggested. Culinary traveling isn’t about the distance - it’s about changing location in order to eat. Wolf also stresses out, that food is probably the only element…

10 Drinks You Have to Try to Celebrate the City You Traveled to
There are some drinks you have to try when you travel to a foreign place. When it comes to drinks worth tasting to celebrate the place you travelled to, the list can go on and on. Because almost every place has it’s local drink, that the citizens are extremely proud of. This is why choosing only 10 beverages you should to try while abroad was not an easy task. If it’s possible, I always pick diversity, and this time it was actually the best rule of all. So that whenever you feel like becoming a local for a little while, you know what to order. 1. CHACHA IN TBILISI I recently got to meet some wonderful people from Georgia (the country in Eastern Europe, not the state in America) and I got a present from them. It was a homemade Chacha. It was the first time, that I heard of this drink, so I was really curious, what was that. My friends explained, that it’s a sort of brandy made from grapes... well actually it’s from whatever is left from grapes after preparing homemade wine (which is also a source of pride for Georgians). I tasted it. It’s really strong…
Drinking Customs Around the World
Drinking customs around the world are very diversified. In every culture there are not only local liquors, but also drinking customs that can seem very strange. Alcohol, like food, is an invaluable part of every nation’s culture. So before trying to drink with folks of other nationalities, read about HOW to drink liquor and avoid faux pas in different parts of the world. You will find out that you don’t know how to drink tequila after all. You will learn why the Czechs don’t approach the bartender in a pub, what is the reason that Hungarians don’t clink glasses while raising a toast, and how to enjoy vodka with Russians. KOREA Photo Credit: Hyunwoo Sun via Compfight cc Drink: Soju (a Korean variation of vodka - often a little sweet; max 45% vol.) “Cheers”: “Hwanho” Customs: When it comes to alcohol, always (always!) use both hands. With both hands you accept the glass, drink the liquor, hand the glass back over and pour alcohol to an empty glass. And you will be asked to pour alcohol, because in Korea nobody should fill their own glass. If there is just two of you, your host pours the drink to you and you…
How to Use Your Pictures to Boost Your Visual Content Strategy
Having a visual content strategy is what can help you drive more amazing people to your blog and give you that extra competitive advantage. I know, it all sounds a bit like a marketers blabbing in a world where actually all you want to do is have an honest conversation with amazing people who follow your brilliant blog. The truth is that visual content can only help you lift this conversation to a higher level. And to have a great visual content marketing strategy you do not have to spend extra hours creating things you didn't like in the first place – you can actually use something you have in abudance. By that I mean- why don't you use your photographs? Your amazing spectacular pictures you have taken traveling the world. Here's five ways to use them and how to include them as an element of your visual content strategy. Social Media Love Your Pics It's a well proven fact that people engage with visual content a lot more than with plain words. Not that words don't matter. It is just the way our brain works – it instantly makes us concentrate on visual rather than plain text. Scientifically speaking,…
Memejacking for Travel Bloggers
Of all the „jacking”, memejacking is the most fun. I assume nobody wants to be on a hijacked plane. Newsjacking can sometime get out of control and become a very cynical practice, but when done right it can not only increase shareability of your content and drive mad crowds to your blog, but is also fun to do and not at all difficult. But what is memejacking anyway? And why should it be so good for you and your blog? What is memejacking all about? Who doesn't love a good meme? The key word being GOOD, as the lame ones don't get much attention– meaning they will do you know good. Those simple almost primitive visuals spread all over social media like a malicious influenza. But contrary to the virus they're funny, clever, and great for social sharing. For every blogger out there who does his own marketing memejacking (that is hijacking popular memes for your own benefit) can be a great way to create some fun, engaging content that shows off your blog's personality and likeability. Just like in newsjacking, with memejacking you simply take something that is as popular as the Royal Baby in August and remix it.…
How to Relive Your Travel Experience Using Social Media
Using Social Media has influenced just about every aspect of our lives both physically and psychologically. The way we live, spend time with others, eat and experience a live show or art exhibitions. All that has changed since Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest have become platforms to inspire, share and verify our own identity. The psychologists prove how a single selfie can change the way we sustain ourselves. The anthropologists argue how we relive and fully experience our daily activities only once we verify them with social shares. Traveling and vacationing is no different. How to not become a recluse and give up on the trend completely yet still save the memories without losing integrity and their magic? Human Nature and Using Social Media Even though many argue that the digital era has completely changed our behaviors, the truth is it only magnified some of the effects the social environment has on our identity and the way we experience the world around us. It is a long known fact that we partially construct the self, self-esteem and derive the knowledge about ourselves from the feedback others grant us. It has always been this way. That also means testing how others view…
How our Slideshare deck went viral and how you can use your visual content to do the same
We've been getting pretty good results on Slideshare and we've arrived at a pretty obvious conclusion– your visual content matters. The pictures you take, the videos you shoot, the infographics and presentations you prepare are eye candy. But we've dug deep into science journals to break it down and see why some images work and some don't. If you have a travel blog those visuals can help you boost traffic, so it's worth knowing how to use it to your advantage. To truly master the art of visual content creation it's best to start with learning a bit more about how we actually perceive the world around us. How the Brain Perceives Visual Data Photo Credit: ZeroOne via Compfight cc We all experience the world around us. The same process allows us to experience the trip to the mall and browsing your blog or facebook feed. 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and visuals are processed 60,000X faster in the brain than text. The perceptual process allows us to experience the world around us wherever we are and whatever there is to experience. Just think of all the things you perceive on a daily basis. At any…
How to Turn One Idea Into a Myriad of Blog Posts ideas
My problem is I have the best ideas when I move – literally. Walking climbing, rope jumping – you name the move and I will make sure I will have tons of ideas to write blog posts, academic thesis & books. Sounds familiar? Well if it does then this post is for you. Even if you come back to the idea you manage to save by making a quick note, you probably lose it quite quickly. When in the daily routine you write it down, check emails, get derailed, jump into a meeting, grab a coffee, then settle back in … only to hate what you thought of in the first place. When on the road, the story is pretty much the same – we are no different. I usually have no problem writing a post once I grab an idea, but sometimes coming up with the idea in the first place can be the tricky part. Trust me – I’ve been there. The secret to generating blog posts that matter isn't that much about those magical, mysthical, absynth driven creative moments. Oddly enough it's about organization and about planning ahead. So my approach is simple – whenever you have a single…
The Ultimate Guide to Freelancing in Denmark
If you want to try freelancing in Denmark, the set information we have prepared will come handy before you leave and once you reach your destination. Released Monday, the 2013 World Happiness Report ranks the happiest countries around the globe, with Denmark, Norway and Switzerland leading the pack. In 2012, Denmark also took the top spot, receiving the highest combined score on a scale of zero through 10. Since freelancing is supposed to be all about freedom and being happy, we've decided to inspect Denmark to continue our research on the Ultimate Freelancing Guide. The citizens of this European country have some good reasons to be happy. And we were looking for those reasons to, so that you too, can live the Danish dream. Legal issues for those freelancing in Denmark The Kingdom of Denmark (the official name) is in Northern Europe on a peninsula between the Northern Sea and Baltic Sea. It also has two autonomous constituent countries in the north Atlantic Ocean, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark is part of the EU (European Union) so just like it was in Portugal, things are definitely easier for citiziens of other EU states. But as our research proves, they are not that extremely complicated for…
The Ultimate Guide for Freelancing in Portugal
We continue our ultimate freelancing guide with all the important information for those who are considering starting a new life and freelancing in Portugal. This European country is often viewed as a perfect holiday destination full of amazing tourist attractions, great food, friendly people. No wonder more and more people decide to look into the possibilities of moving there. Some consider it as an option for retirement, but some look into the options of working or freelancing there. Due to high unemployment rates the working options might be rather unlimited unless you are a very highly specialised professional (but that always applies to any country). But if you can do freelancing job that requires just a good internet connection, then Portugal is absolutely a place to consider. Visa and legal requirements for freelancing in Portugal Portugal is member of the EU (European Union) so obviously all things legal are a lot easier if you are a citizen of EU. Citizens of the European Union, Andorra, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Romania and Switzerland need only an identity card to enter Portugal. If you are a minor in addition to their identity card you must also present authorisation from your parents…
The Ultimate Tipping in Europe Guide
Food is a necessity. That's obvious – without it, you simply die. But food is also a part of culture and over centuries we've surrounded it with norms, habits, customs, superstitions. We've even associated religious doctrines with it. One such custom that is associated with food and service is obviously tipping. This custom also relies heavily on one of the strongest social mechanisms we humans have in common – reciprocity. We give to get… more. In this case we give to get better service, expecting – quite naturally that that's the way it works. The service on the other hand tries harder to get tipped. Tipping is maybe not as natural as food itself and there are some people who strongly advocate against it. There have even been political movements against it. You can learn about it and other interesting facts checking out our decks on Slideshare dedicated to all things tipping. General rules for tipping in Europe No matter where you are, tip extra if the service has been exquisite. That is a general piece of advice, but there are differences in tipping culture dependant on where you are. If you one of the patrons who don't tip at…

The Ultimate Guide to Freelancing in Canada
Freelancing in Canada may not be the first thing that comes to mind, when looking for new opportunities to travel and work outside your home country. When discussing Freelancing abroad, the natural selection for many people are more exotic locations.. We've started our Ultimate Freelancing series with a post on Freelancing in Thailand, but we though it would be the right thing to do, to balance the sizzling heat of palm shaded beaches with a bit of a harsh, yet amazing beauty of the North. We've researched, for you, the most important things you need to know before you decide on freelancing in Canada. But don't leave yet – every week we will publish one more country to choose from. I have always associated Canada with Bryan Adams, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Apart from rather obvious musical connotations I pictured it as a rather empty country populated by so few that it seemed hard to believe people actually mate there. How wrong was I?! Celine, Bryan and Alanis are Canadians – no doubt about it, but my other stereotypical views were one of the reasons why I did not consider Canada as a freelancers paradise. Yes it is a…

Things You Did Not Know about Air Travel
I'm pretty sure there are things you did not know about air travel. We've collected some crucial facts every modern day nomad should know before boarding. You'll learn who was the first flight attendant ever, where planes land on the busy city street and whether it's possible to fly every resident of Chicago at the same time. Citizens of Chicago in the Air Photo Credit: ~Oryctes~ via Compfight cc There are 61,000 people in the air over the United States at any given moment of any given day and over 3 million people in World in the air on planes at any one time in total. That is approximately the whole population of Chicago in the air at the same time. That is possible since there are over 14,000 commercial flights in the air at any given time of the day. With this in mind it is rather surprising that only 5% of the worlds population have ever been on an airplane. One guy though, Tom Stuker is not only among that 5%. He is also the worlds most frequent flyer. He has traveled over 10 million miles. It is perhaps because he knows that flight is one of…
Most Common Stereotypes About America
There are a lot of common stereotypes about America. Since it’s myth busting time again we'll examine the most popular ones and try to see what is the truth about the land of freedom. In one of my previous posts I’ve tackled common stereotypes about Russia. Now the time has come to take a closer look at another huge country - the United States of America. Here they are – five most common stereotypes and myths about USA: Myth № 1 Americans are stupid Photo Credit: shoothead via Compfight cc I really like this myth. Because it shows people’s way of thinking and behaving: in order to feel better about themselves they depreciate other people and nationalities around them. The fact is that there are a lot of stupid people in America. But there are also plenty of absolutely brilliant people as well. I believe it’s just a matter of statistics. In a country as huge as the US, there has to be a lot of both. And since it’s easier to spot bad thing, the less intelligent people are the ones who are being noticed faster (and it helps, that they’re usually broadcasting their opinions loudly. Stupid opinions, might…
Worst Hotel Reviews Travelers Leave to Warn Others
Worst hotel reviews travelers leave is something every hotel manager dreads. Especially now where they can easily go global with all-so-popular trend in today’s social media. One very interesting trend hit the global net quite recently. The idea is that the citizens of some cities create special pages where they can write sarcastic comments about what pisses them off in their city. The only rule – sentences have to be reversed: “I'm so glad the metro is closed for the night – I love walking 10 blocks at 4 in the morning.” This trend inspired me to write about something else. I figured that if a page like that existed for terrible hotels, it would have at least these five sentences. So, I give you things you will never hear in a lousy hotel. THIS HOTEL LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IN THE PICUTRES Photo Credit: Ewan-M via Compfight cc How do you usually choose your hotel? If you're not visiting the same place again, and you don't have anyone to advise you, you have to deal with it in another way. So you browse website after website, checking out hotels. You finally make up your mind based on what you read…
Travel Destination Ideas Stolen From the Cinema
After listing a few books you should avoid if you don’t want to travel, it’s high time to do a similar analysis with movies. They have even bigger potential of making you travel, because you don’t have to imagine anything - you’ll be seeing the place, that you will be inspired to go to before actually arriving. Here’s a few films that might have a big impact on your future traveling plans. Photo Credit: Julie70 via Compfight cc PARIS - “AMÉLIE” [2001] Amélie Poulain is this eccentric young girl from Paris, brought up separated from her peers. Thanks to that she developed an extraordinary imagination and an unusual interest to mankind and respect to every person she meets. She spends her free time helping Parisians and bringing happiness into their lives at the same time looking for love in her own life. This warm comedy full of romance shows the viewers not only an interesting character (played by incredible Audrey Tautou), but also makes you fall in love. With the capital city of France, which is presented as this colorful and charming place, where you can actually find joy and childish optimism - the one Amélie never lost. Photo Credit:…
MOST CLICHE HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS
I find weddings pretty cliche. Sorry for being a little bit cynical, but there’s something about the predictability of the ceremony and the reception, that’s just, well... not very original. And the honeymoon, as the part of all that, is usually also pretty typical. Check out which destinations are the most cliche for the honeymoon. PARIS Photo Credit: Anirudh Koul via Compfight cc Naturally! The city of love. Add to that French, the language of love and you get a pretty lovely picture. The usual trip involves Champs-Élysées, Louvre, Notre Dame cathedral, long romantic walks on the La Seine river and, of course, admiring the breathtaking views of the city from La Tour d’Eiffel. Oh, and the amazing food on just about every corner: fresh croissants and omelettes in the morning, delicious seafood, variety of luxurious cheese or even frogs’ legs and snails as well as one of the most appreciated wine strains in the world and the only original champagne! Not to forget crème brûlée for dessert! Luckily, you don’t have to fit in your wedding dress/tuxedo any more, so you can enjoy all the food without counting calories. CURSING IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD
They are an important element of every language. Sometimes inappropriate, often funny and always emotional. Without them any communication would be incomplete. Swears, curses or how linguists like to call them, vulgarisms are a necessary part of language and culture. It's highly possible that there is no culture in this world that hasn't developed some sort of swearing system. Let's take a closer look at cursing in different languages. WARNING - it’s really vulgar. Photo Credit: Darwin Bell via Compfight cc Rich Slavic languages You might not know this, but Slavic languages like Polish, Serbian, Russian or Bulgarian have many different ways of swearing. Those languages are pretty rich when it comes to means of expression, because the nations themselves are pretty expressive. For example, the specific of POLISH swears is that there are a lot of synonyms – some things may be said (yelled) in more than just one way. Like, when everything goes wrong, in English we simply shout “f**k” or “shit”; a Polish person may use “kurwa”, “kurwa mać”, “ja pierdolę”, “do chuja” and so on. In this situation meaning isn't as important as the expressive function of the words. And when it does come to meaning,…
5 WEIRDEST MONUMENTS TO CHECK OUT WHEN YOU TRAVEL
When traveling, you only want to see and appreciate the beautiful objects, the things that the locals take pride in preserving, right? WRONG! You want some dirt too! The bizarre, creepy, ugly, even freakish things that exist because of an accident or spitefulness or a series of unfortunate events, that lead to you looking at this terrible something. Now that's interesting! This entry is about those weird monuments – so take a look. THE MAGIC TAP - TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS (SPAIN) In Canary Islands the water comes out of thin air. It seems impossible, and yet you can see it - the wonder happens all the time right before the very eyes of hundreds of thousands of tourists. This is no photoshop (would I lie to you?), and since we ruled that out, you probably want to guess (or already suspect), how does this work? But I must admit, I was a little disappointed that the solution was so barbarically simple. After I knew the answer, I decided I didn’t really want to know, because suddenly the magic was gone. But, for those of you who want to demystify the statute - the answer is at the end…
